FOUNDING DONORS
After leading Essence magazine for nearly three decades, Susan L. Taylor left the publication in order to sustain and grow the National CARES Mentoring Movement (NCMM) now in 56 cities and which she founded as Essence CARES. Susan and her husband, Khephra Burns, were the foundation's first funders. Anheuser-Busch is NCMM's Founding Corporate Funder. National CARES has taken root and is growing in communities due to Essence magazine and the Oprah Winfrey Show's efforts to provide media support.
